Jewels of the Night: The Guyana Tourism Authority Gala & Awards Ceremony 2025

On Tuesday, December 02, the Guyana Tourism Authority hosted its Gala & Awards Ceremony, celebrating excellence across Guyana’s tourism sector. THAG was honoured to attend, with our Executives and many members present, several of whom were nominated and awarded for their outstanding contributions and work throughout the year. We are also proud to share that THAG received the Tourism Supporting Strategic Partner Award, recognising our ongoing commitment to collaboration and industry development.

THAG President, Mr. Mitra Ramkumar, delivered brief remarks underscoring THAG’s dedication to strengthening public–private partnerships, noting that the continued advancement of Guyana’s tourism sector requires unified effort. He reaffirmed THAG’s support for the national campaign “Tourism is Everybody’s Business,” led by the Ministry of Tourism, Industry & Commerce and the Guyana Tourism Authority, highlighting its role in shifting behaviours and mindsets to better appreciate tourism’s impact on everyday life.

He further emphasised some priority needs for the industry including: tax concessions on vehicles such as Land Cruisers, SUVs, and four-door pick-ups which would greatly support the increasing demand for VIP concierge services, where safety and comfort are essential expectations for visitors. Mr. Ramkumar also reiterated the need for the existing incentive package to be extended to accommodate smaller tourism investments, including for the refurbishment and retooling of lodges and hotels.

As the industry expands with new hotels, products, and services, he stressed the importance of maintaining quality and consistency across all experiences. Hospitality remains the heart of tourism, and with rising visitor numbers, the need for a skilled, professional, and motivated workforce is even more critical. On this front, THAG remains committed to advancing training and professional development to ensure that growth benefits not only businesses, but also households, communities, and generations across Guyana.

He also acknowledged key government initiatives with strong potential to boost the sector, including the Georgetown Revitalization Project in the Stabroek and Vreed-en-Hoop areas; the call for Expressions of Interest for new eco-lodges and resort developments; and the Digital Guyana agenda to modernise public services.

THAG remains committed to working alongside the public sector to support a thriving tourism industry where all stakeholders can benefit.

We extend heartfelt congratulations to all nominees, winners, and partners, and to everyone who continues to strengthen and sustain Guyana’s tourism sector. Kudos to the Guyana Tourism Authority and all collaborators for an excellent evening celebrating the strength and spirit of our tourism industry.
