The Agri-Tourism Policy was officially launched on November 17 at Gobin’s Farm & Kitchen, marking a major milestone in Guyana’s tourism development.
Developed through collaboration among IICA, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Tourism, Industry & Commerce, the GTA, and THAG, the policy establishes a national framework linking agriculture and tourism.
The initiative supports farm-to-table experiences, cultural food trails, bush-cook adventures, and community-based tourism, creating new opportunities for sustainable livelihoods and product diversification.
Strengthening Tourism Education: THAG Engages Educators
The Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) was pleased to participate in a presentation on Friday, November 21st, hosted by the Ministry of Education’s Career Guidance Unit for teachers delivering the CXC Social Studies curriculum, as well as the CAPE Tourism and Caribbean Studies. The session created an open space for frank discussions on the tourism industry and how teachers can effectively deliver related content in the classroom.
THAG and presenters shared valuable insights, strengthening understanding of the industry’s structure and importance, as well as the diverse career pathways and long-term opportunities available. This collaboration supports our shared goal of promoting a stronger and more sustainable tourism and hospitality sector.
Presenters included Ms. Candace Phillips (GTA), Mr. Malcolm Rhodius (592 Tours, THAG Executive Member), and Mr. Shaun McGrath (Cara Lodge Hotel), who shared insights on tourism careers, operations, and industry sustainability. Past SWIFT interns Maleka Rambaran and Jared Grant also shared reflections on how the programme shaped their career paths.
We extend our sincere thanks to the Career Guidance Unit for the invitation. THAG looks forward to continued collaboration as we work together to build a sustainable and resilient industry.
