THAG’s SWIFT (Student Work and Internship for Tourism) Programme 2025 continued to provide meaningful, hands-on exposure for students and recent graduates entering Guyana’s tourism and hospitality sector.
As part of the programme, SWIFT interns participated in an engaging Georgetown City Tour led by tour guide Mr. Paul Waldron of Outdoor Expeditions. The group explored several of the capital’s iconic landmarks, including Red House, the National Park, the Seawall, Botanical Gardens, the Walter Roth Museum, the 1763 Monument, and more. Along the way, interns gained valuable insights into Georgetown’s history and heritage, making the experience both educational and enjoyable.
A total of 17 interns successfully completed a three-week internship, gaining practical experience with THAG member companies, including:
The programme also included a visit to the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA), where interns were introduced to the agency’s core functions and departments, including Product Development, Events, Training & Licensing, and Statistics. This session helped broaden interns’ understanding of the wide range of career pathways available within the tourism industry.
The week concluded with a certificate handover ceremony, where THAG proudly recognised the interns’ dedication and achievements, followed by the city tour experience.
THAG extends sincere thanks to Herdmanston Lodge Hotel – Guyana and Outdoor Expeditions for serving as August 2025 SWIFT Sponsors.
The SWIFT Programme continues to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world practice, integrating young talent into the heart of Guyana’s tourism and hospitality industry.
