Sloth Island, once an uninhabited 160-acre paradise, has transformed into a tranquil retreat from the bustle of city life. Founded by an entrepreneur seeking an eco-friendly holiday home, reclamation of the island began in the early 1990s. Amerindians from the Agatash area built traditional structures on the swampy northern point, creating a space for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. Despite challenges like land reclamation and termite infestations, Sloth Island has evolved into a modern, three-level facility overlooking the Essequibo River, surrounded by 155 acres of untouched vegetation.
